Tangible Kingdom in Toronto

Published by hhalter at 12:50 am under Uncategorized

Hi Friends, since I can’t figure out how to flicker or twitter or whatever that is, I thought I’d throw out a quick vibe to let you know that I’ll be in Toronto this Thursday for a full day training sponsored by Forge Canada. If you have any friends that want to process incarnational church themes, pass the word along. Google Forge Canada for info.  Hope to see some of you or your friends.

Hugh

Thanks so much for coming up and sharing today. I was incredibly encouraged. The church I pastor is a few years old and started with a very similar vision for community life but in the past few years have drifted VERY far from that vision. Today’s session really gave me a direction for getting back on track.

    Thanks again!

I had a question that I really wanted to ask you but had to leave early to pick up my kids at school…

My church was planted about 6 years ago with a very similar passion and vision for community groups to engage people in the culture around us. The goal was to have these groups all around the city and to reach out and serve in different parts of the community. However, the leadership structure they put in place was identical to the traditional roots that these core families had grown up in. I’ve only been the pastor at this church since April (they’ve been without a point leader for nearly a year) and I’m seeing that the current leadership structure will just not help them get the results in their ministry that they were hoping for.

I was wondering if you had somewhere in either your website/blog/book that describes how you have the leadership structured at Adullam?

Thanks again for a great day.

Greetings, Hugh Halter. Ron Rehfeldt here for Philo Xenos Koinonia (Loving Strangers Fellowship). I bumped into your book The Tangible Kingdom on a Chicago public library table on which I was reclining and turned to the index as is my wont. Eureka! “Community” pp. I forget now. Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoyed what you and Matt Smay wrote about “community, communion, mission.”
I have a mission. First to find an authentically radical Christian community…a task becoming more and more difficult each day.
Second, to preach the gospel to churches I visit that they should always be open in order that hosts will entertain strangers and other visitors standing in need of help at their doorsteps.
Have you noticed that churches have office hours? Wonder what you think about that.
Anyhow, have you any insights on churches being accessible to strangers at all times, like at Holiday Inn? I will puruse your book for your thoughts, but had to check you on internet…in pursuit of Chicago church/community meeting God’s criteria. I could give you a list of disappointments, but, no….
I wish you well, in Christ’s eternal love, Ron Rehfeldt, Chicago, IL

Dude! Where’s the blog posts? I know you’re busy and all, but the world needs to know your thoughts! At least, I need to know. ;-)
